A feisty cat fight is on tap when the West Jordan Jaguars challenge the Kearns Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday... One thing working in West Jordan's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
West Jordan is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Everything went their way against Granger on Tuesday as West Jordan made off with a 66-44 win. With that victory, the Jaguars brought their scoring average up to 50.2 points per game.
It was another big night for Giselle Muffett, who went 9 of 16 on her way to 24 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of West Jordan's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Francine McIntyre, who posted ten points along with six steals and five assists.
West Jordan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Kearns unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 53-44 to Taylorsville.
Despite the loss, Kearns saw an underclassman step up: freshman Marie Angilau-Lea dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Leila Fowler, who scored five points in addition to nine boards and three steals.
West Jordan has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.6 points per game. As for Kearns, they now also have a losing record at 6-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: West Jordan has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Kearns struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
West Jordan took their win against Kearns when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 47-25. Does West Jordan have another victory up their sleeve, or will Kearns turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
