The Vienna Eagles and the Edwards County Lions will round out the year against one another at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday at. Vienna knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 contests -- so hopefully Edwards County likes a good challenge.
Vienna has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 26 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 84-39 win over Johnston City on the road. Vienna's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Owen Treat continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 4-for-6 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 23 points and 14 assists. The game was his 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Webb, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Edwards County was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 58-54 to Webber. While losing is never fun, Edwards County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 487th, while Webber is ranked 130th).
Vienna is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Edwards County, they now have a losing record at 6-7.
Everything went Vienna's way against Edwards County in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as Vienna made off with a 65-42 win. Does Vienna have another victory up their sleeve, or will Edwards County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
