Sunlake is a perfect 4-0 against Gulf since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Seahawks will look to defend their home field against the Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sunlake 3.6, Gulf 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Monday, Sunlake came up short against Clearwater and fell 7-3.
Analese Lacquey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Gulf's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Thursday. They never let Central get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Buccaneers have posted against the Bears since April 25, 2022.
Jeovanna Carter made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Wiley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Mya Rogers was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Gulf was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Gulf's win bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Sunlake, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-8.
Gulf's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sunlake hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. It's a different story for Gulf, though, as they've only averaged .232. Will they be able to contain Sunlake's hitters?
Everything went Sunlake's way against Gulf when the teams last played back in March of 2021, as Sunlake made off with a 17-0 victory. Do the Seahawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buccaneers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
