The Lake Mead Academy Eagles came tearing into Friday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They had just enough and edged Awaken Christian out 43-41. That's another feather in the cap for Lake Mead Academy, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Lake Mead Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aliyah Harris, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Harris has scored at least a third of Lake Mead Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tenaya Brown, who scored nine points along with six steals.
When it comes to explaining why Awaken Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Phoenix Sharp. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 blocks. Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Mead Academy will take on the Guardians at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully GV Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 41 last Tuesday. As for Awaken Christian, they will play host again and welcome the Cougars, where tip off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nevada (Laughlin is ranked 84th, while the Lions are ranked 71st).
