Softball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Riverview's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

Riverview won against Robinson on Tuesday with 18 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Sharks' pitchers stepped up to hand the Spoto Spartans an 18-0 shutout. The Sharks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

Kacey Kalinowski looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Riverview let Kara McGuire and Carleigh Demilio run wild. McGuire went 3-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Demilio got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave Demilio a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Peyton Stone, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Riverview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Riverview has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.9 runs over those games. As for Spoto, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riverview will host Brandon at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.67 runs per game on average), something the Sharks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Spoto, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Freedom at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
