Lake Region is 8-2 against Lake Wales since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Thunder will square off against the Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. Lake Region is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
Lake Region is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Jones a 16-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Thunder, who have now won 14 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Makenna Meadows made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meadows was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Bailee Ellis was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Margaret Jenkins was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Lake Region kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Lake Wales sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over Innovation on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Highlanders.
Innovation's batters probably weren't too happy with Anna Conroy, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 14 Ks (she gave up a single walk). Conroy has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Johalis Rivera-Colon, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. Kami Velazquez also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Lake Region's record now sits at 23-3. As for Lake Wales, their record is now 14-8.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Lake Region has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Lake Wales struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lake Region took their victory against Lake Wales in their previous matchup last Tuesday by a conclusive 8-2 score. Will the Thunder repeat their success, or do the Highlanders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
