The East Lake Eagles will take on the Plant Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. East Lake will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only East Lake walked away with it. They walked away with a 73-64 win over the Gryphons on Thursday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
East Lake's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tyler Becker, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Brody Church, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, Plant can now show off ten landslide victories after their most recent contest on Thursday. Everything went their way against Alonso as Plant made off with a 55-35 victory. Given Plant's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while Alonso is ranked 285th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
East Lake is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. As for Plant, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 20-6.
East Lake came up short against Plant in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 48-35. Can East Lake avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
