Basketball Recap: Hough's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Hough won the last time they faced Cuthbertson and things went their way on Thursday too. The Hough Huskies were the clear victor by a 55-31 margin over the Cuthbertson Cavaliers. Given the Huskies' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 387th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hough had a senior duo take command as Sophia Zoerb posted 12 points and three steals and Chloe Galombeck went 5 of 9 on her way to 13 points. Zoerb is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ka'Leiya Jones, who had five points.

Hough was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cuthbertson only racked up four assists.

When it comes to explaining why Cuthbertson lost, don't look at Amayah Rogers. Despite the final result, she went 7 of 11 on her way to 17 points and six rebounds. That was a full 54.8% of Cuthbertson's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

The win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.4 points per game. As for Cuthbertson, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.

Hough will host North Mecklenburg at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in North Mecklenburg's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Cuthbertson, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 39-38 victory against Parkwood on the 13th.
