Baseball Recap: Madras Takes a Loss

Madras had lost six straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-16 to make it seven. They lost 7-0 to the Estacada Rangers. The shutout was out of character for the White Buffaloes seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.

As for Estacada, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-8-1 record this season. Seven seems to be a good number for they as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

For Estacada's part, Connor Abbott was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Abbott has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Estacada is 5-1 when Abbott posts two or more runs, but 6-7-1 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paul Ables, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Davin Olson, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

While Madras had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
