As a matter of fact, Fort Bend Kempner put up the most runs they have all season on Thursday. They put the hurt on Fort Bend Marshall with a sharp 18-4 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Cougars as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Fort Bend Kempner got a massive performance out of Victoria Onuoha, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Onuoha a new career-high. Natalie Hernandez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Fort Bend Kempner always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .815. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, while Lamar Consolidated put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Tomas. The Mustangs didn't even let the Gators on the board, marking the Mustangs' second-straight 15-0 shutout. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by seven runs or more this season.
Venecia Laris was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Catherine Anders was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Terra Williams was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Fort Bend Kempner's record is now 7-12. As for Lamar Consolidated, their record now sits at 11-12.
Fort Bend Kempner suffered a grim 19-2 defeat to Lamar Consolidated in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
