The Jay Royals had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They snuck past Freeport with a 61-57 win on Wednesday. The win was familiar territory for Jay who now have three in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jay to victory, but perhaps none more so than Presley Hawthorne, who scored 11 points along with seven steals and six assists. Hawthorne is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Aubreigh Nelson, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Despite the loss, Freeport still got an impressive performance from Jasmine Miles, who shot 4-for-8 from long range and dropped a double-double on 30 points and 13 rebounds. Miles has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last seven times she's played. Emma Ludwig was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Jay has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. As for Freeport, their loss dropped their record down to 13-11.
Jay will take on Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Jay is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53.3 points per game this season. Freeport does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
