The Barbour County Jaguars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 60-44 to Ariton. While losing is never fun, Barbour County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 404th, while Ariton is ranked 170th).
Ariton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ian Senn led the charge by scoring 14 points along with seven steals. Those seven steals set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Matthew McNair, who scored 19 points.
Barbour County has fallen quite a ways from their 16-5 record last season and are now at 1-13. As for Ariton, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Barbour County will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Bullock County at 6:00 p.m. on January 6th. Bullock County will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Ariton won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Elba at 7:00 p.m. on January 5th.
