The Faith Christian Eagles and the Fountain Central Mustangs squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but sadly the Faith Christian Eagles had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 49-46. Faith Christian has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Faith Christian saw an underclassman step up: Maya Layton scored 22 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. That was a full 47.8% of Faith Christian's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracyn Musick, who scored seven points.
Fountain Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hannah Prickett led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Prickett pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Henley Good, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Faith Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Fountain Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season.
Faith Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Fountain Central will take on the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Clinton Central sitting on 16 straight victories and the Mustangs on three.
