There's no place like home for the South Vermillion Wildcats, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They walked away with a 65-52 victory over Edgewood on Friday. Given South Vermillion's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while Edgewood is ranked 288th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading South Vermillion to victory were Brayson Shoults and Aden Wallace. Shoults scored 21 points along with 8 rebounds, while Wallace scored 26 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Shoults has scored at least 25% of South Vermillion's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Bush, who scored 8 points along with 6 assists and 6 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Edgewood had strong showings from Carl Norris, who scored 14 points, and Jacob Boggs, who scored 7 points along with 10 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kamren Ranard, who scored 6 points.
South Vermillion's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Edgewood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Vermillion will challenge Terre Haute South Vigo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Terre Haute South Vigo knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully South Vermillion likes a good challenge. As for Edgewood, they will head out on the road to face off against Indian Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Indian Creek is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
