The Mater Dei Monarchs came tearing into Saturday's game with 14 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 91-80 win over Campbell Hall. Given Mater Dei's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Campbell Hall is ranked 93rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mater Dei to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brannon Martinsen, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Martinsen has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Barnett, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Mater Dei's win bumped their record up to 22-1. As for Campbell Hall, their loss dropped their record down to 8-14.
Mater Dei and JSerra Catholic will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. JSerra Catholic is on a three-game streak of home wins, Mater Dei a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Campbell Hall will take on Venice at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Venice's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups.
