The Salem Generals will challenge the Whitehall Railroaders at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Salem is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
On Thursday, Salem made easy work of Berlin/New Lebanon and carried off an 11-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Generals, who have now won four matches by nine runs or more so far this season.
Chase Baylor and Cooper Petell made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Baylor tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Petell tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Baylor has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Baylor earned one RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases, while Petell went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Stephen Yakubec was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. James Beagle was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Whitehall suffered their closest loss since April 26, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of Warrensburg by a score of 5-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Railroaders in their meetings with the Burgers: they've now lost three in a row.
Salem pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Whitehall, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Salem skirted past Whitehall 3-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Generals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Railroaders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
