Independence will head out to face off against the Heritage Pride at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Independence is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Independence made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Freedom, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Independence blew past Freedom 14-3 on Wednesday. While Independence didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Emma Stringer made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Stringer was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Halliday Fulcher and Dely Keller did most of the damage at the plate: Fulcher scored three runs while going 3-for-4, while Keller scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Lanie Radkowski also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Independence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Heritage, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Stone Bridge 14-13. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Pride considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Ryleigh Dooley was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Noelle Smith, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
The win got Heritage back to even at 4-4. As for Independence, their record is now 4-1.
Independence took their victory against Heritage in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 18-8 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for Independence since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
