Two dominant guards in Sydney Richardson and Syvannah Dawson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Matoaca Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Thomas Dale Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
The third road contest was the charm for Matoaca, as they earned their first road win of the season. They managed a 53-48 win over Dinwiddie on Thursday.
Matoaca can attribute much of their success to Kristina Cooper, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds, and Richardson, who scored 20 points along with six assists and three steals. Cooper continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Meanwhile, Thomas Dale put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 84-35 win over Deep Run on the road. Thomas Dale has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 23 points or more this season.
Dawson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and almost dropping a triple-double on 31 points, nine assists, and nine steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Nylah Wilson was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Matoaca now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Thomas Dale, their victory was their 12th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-0.
Matoaca was dealt a bruising 74-39 defeat at the hands of Thomas Dale when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Matoaca avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
