Baseball Recap: Rogers Has No Trouble Against Clements

While Rogers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Clements Colts on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won seven matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Rogers let Griffen Herston and Bo Mitchell run wild. Herston went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Mitchell scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most RBI Herston has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Lee, who scored three runs and stole a base.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Rogers kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Rogers pushed their record up to 10-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Clements, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season.

Rogers will welcome Lexington at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lexington has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.39 runs per game on average), something Rogers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Clements, they are taking a road trip to take on Athens Bible at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
