Chaparral was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 69-68 to Mountain Vista. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Chaparral's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Carter, who scored 26 points. That was a full 38.2% of Chaparral's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Williams, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds.
Mountain Vista's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Wes Baskind, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. Cal Baskind was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
Chaparral's loss dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Mountain Vista, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chaparral will square off against Douglas County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Douglas County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 11 matches. As for Mountain Vista, they will head out on the road to square off against Regis Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Regis Jesuit is ranked 14th, while Mountain Vista is ranked seventh).
