The Northwest Halifax Vikings will head out on the road to square off against the North Edgecombe Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Northwest Halifax waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Rocky Mount Prep 53-9 at home. Given Northwest Halifax's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 287th, while Rocky Mount Prep is ranked 605th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Northwest Halifax's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Camaya Adkins, who scored 19 points. Adkins hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Aleigha Allen, who scored seven points along with 16 rebounds.
North Edgecombe was handed a three-point loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Southeast Halifax on Tuesday. North Edgecombe breezed by Southeast Halifax on the road to the tune of 68-29.
Northwest Halifax is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. As for North Edgecombe, they pushed their record up to 12-7 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Northwest Halifax and North Edgecombe were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in January, but Northwest Halifax came up empty-handed after a 62-61 defeat. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of North Edgecombe's Diamond Wilson, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
