Mt. Hope is a perfect 3-0 against Cranston East since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Huskies will welcome the Thunderbolts at 4:30 p.m. Mt. Hope has given up an average of 12.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Mt. Hope fell victim to St. Raphael Academy and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 14-0 to the Saints. The Huskies have struggled against the Saints recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cranston East). They blew past Exeter-West Greenwich 20-5 on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Thunderbolts sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Lexi Montalban made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Gianna Tocci was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aniah Parker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Cranston East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.
Mt. Hope's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Cranston East, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.
Everything went Mt. Hope's way against Cranston East in their previous meeting back in June of 2021, as Mt. Hope made off with a 14-4 win. Do the Huskies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Thunderbolts turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
