The Summit Tigers will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Northfield Nighthawks at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
On Friday, Summit needed a bit of extra time to put away Evergreen. They walked away with a 9-5 win over the Cougars.

Sam Eldredge made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hogan Tobias, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lucas Comcowich, who scored a run while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.
Summit kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Northfield got the win against Vista PEAK Prep on Saturday by a conclusive 8-2. Considering the Nighthawks have won four games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Summit, Northfield also got a great game from a two-way player: Mason Brennan. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brennan was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Eli Jackson was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Cameron Mejak was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
Summit pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Northfield, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Summit hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Northfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Summit came out on top in a nail-biter against Northfield when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will Summit repeat their success, or does Northfield has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
