The Butler Bears had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Breckinridge County with a sharp 65-44 win. The score was close at the half, but Butler pulled away in the second half with 45 points.
Several Fighting Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Caroline Lucas, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The game was Lucas' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Grimes, who scored 14 points.
Butler's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Breckinridge County, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season.
Butler will finish 2023 at home by hosting Holy Cross at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Holy Cross knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Butler likes a good challenge. Breckinridge County won't have much time to rest: their next game is against John Hardin at 4:30 p.m. on December 21st.
