The Spoto Spartans can now show off ten landslide victories after their most recent match on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Middleton 60-26 on the road. Given Spoto's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 186th, while Middleton is ranked 377th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Spoto's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jayla Griffin led the charge by scoring 20 points. Another player making a difference was Suri Thomas, who scored 13 points.
Despite the defeat, Middleton saw an underclassman step up: Ayanna Blake scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Blake is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Anaja Griffin, who scored ten points.
Spoto has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Middleton, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-7.
Spoto will head out on the road to challenge Durant at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Durant focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 on Tuesday. As for Middleton, they will play host again and welcome Armwood, where tip off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Armwood is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.9 points per game.
