Wyoming Valley West hasn't had much luck against Tunkhannock recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Spartans will be playing at home against the Tigers at 4:15 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Wyoming Valley West barely beat Hanover Area the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Spartans put the hurt on the Hawkeyes with a sharp 15-5 victory on Thursday. The Spartans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

The team relied heavily on Isabella Seip, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Natalie Geffert, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Wyoming Valley West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Tunkhannock made sure to put some runs up on the board against Williamsport on Monday. The Tigers blew past the Millionaires 10-3. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by seven runs or more this season.
McKenzie Hannon made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Taryn Newswanger was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Emily Patton was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
The win made it two in a row for Tunkhannock and bumps their season record up to 9-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Wyoming Valley West, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.
Wyoming Valley West might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Tunkhannock when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
