Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to post ten more assists than your opponent, a fact the Laurel Spartans proved on Tuesday. They took down High Point 68-51. Given Laurel's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while the Eagles are ranked 290th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Laurel to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gilbert Osafo, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Osafo scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jermaine Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
High Point lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ibrahim Turay, who scored 21 points along with four steals. Turay has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Kadan Solomonraj, who scored 18 points along with three blocks and two steals.
Laurel has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for High Point, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-15.
Laurel will head out on the road to square off against the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bladensburg is out to stop a seven-game streak of losses at home. As for High Point, they and the Panthers will face off at 7:15 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
