The Polk County Wolverines will head out on the road to face off against the Murphy Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Polk County is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
Last Friday, Polk County was beaten by Brevard 49-21. While losing is never fun, Polk County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 279th, while Brevard is ranked 104th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Keaundrae Green, who picked up 68 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 34 yards and a touchdown on only three passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Antonio Simpson, who picked up 125 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Murphy put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Cherokee 35-12. The win made it back-to-back wins for Murphy.
Hunter Stalcup was his usual excellent self, rushing for 214 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 12.6 yards per carry. Stalcup was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 63 yards. Murphy also got a significant boost from Cameron Clem, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 131 yards.
Brevard's victory bumped their season record to 8-2 while Polk County's loss dropped theirs to 4-6.
