Nazareth Area had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. Everything went their way against the Freedom Patriots as the Nazareth Area Blue Eagles made off with  a  17-10 win. Both teams can probably skip cardio this week after making that many trips around the bases.
  David Bertz made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound,   striking out six batters over  three innings while giving up   no  earned runs off   one  hit (and not a single walk). Bertz was also big at the plate,  going 3-for-5 with a  home run, three  runs,  and four  RBI.
 In other batting news,  Mason Kuehner and  Chase Kilareski did most of the damage at the plate:  Kuehner  scored two  runs and  stole three bases while going 2-for-4, while  Kilareski  scored three  runs and  stole a base while going 4-for-6. Another player making a difference was  Matthew Daems, who  scored two  runs and  stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
 Like Nazareth Area, Freedom also got a great game from a two-way player:  John Phillips. He  tossed two innings while giving up   no  earned runs off   one  hit (he also only allowed one  walk). Phillips was also solid in the batter's box,  scoring two  runs while going 2-for-5.
 In other batting news,  Geovanny Ledee was cooking despite his team's loss,   scoring two  runs and  stealing three bases.  Alex Suarez was another key contributor,  scoring two  runs and  stealing a base while  getting on base  in three of his five plate appearances.
 Freedom now  has a losing record at 1-2.
 Both  squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nazareth Area will take on Emmaus at 4:00  p.m.  on Thursday. Nazareth Area will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak  dating back to last season alive. Freedom will take on Parkland at 4:00  p.m.  on Thursday.
