Two dominant players in Ryan Rice and Omaurie Phillips-Porter are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Casa Grande Gauchos's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Ukiah Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on December 21st. Casa Grande will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 710th, while Ukiah is ranked 118th).
Last Saturday, things could have been worse for Casa Grande, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 52-34 loss to Petaluma. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Casa Grande has scored all season.
Even though Ukiah has not done well against Maria Carrillo recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Ukiah was the clear victor by a 61-36 margin over Maria Carrillo. With Ukiah ahead 41-19 at the half, the game was all but over already.
It was another big night for Tony Zacarias, who scored 27 points along with six steals. The matchup was his fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Phillips-Porter, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Casa Grande now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Ukiah, they pushed their record up to 9-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Casa Grande lost to Ukiah at home by a decisive 76-59 margin when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Casa Grande, Marcus Fenk (who scored 21 points along with five steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
