The Riverside Warriors will challenge the Sissonville Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Riverside has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with eight straight losses, while Sissonville will come in with six straight wins.
Riverside came up short against Oak Hill on Wednesday, falling 13-5.
Kaleb Shanklin was cooking despite his team's loss, earning one RBI, one run, and three stolen bases. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Lipscomp, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Sissonville gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over Nicholas County.
The team relied heavily on Eli Simonton, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Barrett Van Camp was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Sissonville pushed their record up to 16-7 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Riverside, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-18.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Riverside has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sissonville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Riverside suffered a grim 10-4 defeat to Sissonville when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
