Having just played yesterday, the Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets will jump right back in to play the Hertford County Bears at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Roanoke Rapids is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.5 points per game this season.
Hertford County is hoping to do what Gates County couldn't on Thursday: put an end to Roanoke Rapids' winning streak, which now stands at three games. Roanoke Rapids came out on top against Gates County by a score of 54-43. Given the Yellowjackets' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 151st, while the Red Barons are ranked 395th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Roanoke Rapids relied on the efforts of Bobby Hawkins Jr., who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, and Khamauri Wood, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trent Seldon, who posted four points and three steals.
Roanoke Rapids was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January.
Meanwhile, Hertford County can finally bid farewell to their six-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game last Thursday. They walked away with a 67-60 victory over Pasquotank County.
Roanoke Rapids better keep an eye on Rimiez Williams. He was instrumental in Hertford County's win, almost dropping a double-double on 29 points and nine boards. That makes it six consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least a third of Hertford County's points. Shimere Garris was another key player, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten boards.
Hertford County's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Roanoke Rapids, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Roanoke Rapids has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Hertford County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Roanoke Rapids ended up a good deal behind Hertford County in their previous matchup back in February of 2017, losing 71-56.
