The Screven County Gamecocks had to endure a nine-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They strolled past Claxton with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 50-35. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Screven County also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.
Screven County found their leader in underclassman Rodney Beckwith, who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Beckwith scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Deven Oliver, who scored ten points.
Screven County's win ended a 15-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-11. As for Claxton, they bumped their record down to 2-14 with that loss, which was their third straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Screven County will challenge Portal at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Portal knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine contests -- so hopefully Screven County likes a good challenge. As for Claxton, they will head out on the road to challenge Appling County at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Appling County is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
