The Grayson County Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Barren County Trojans at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Grayson County took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Hancock County, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Grayson County narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Hancock County 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted against the Hornets since March 21, 2022.
The team relied heavily on Garrett Bradley, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Greyson Chaffins also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Barren County hadn't done well against Franklin-Simpson recently (they were 1-7-1 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Barren County put the hurt on Franklin-Simpson with a sharp 10-2 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Trojans needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Barren County got a massive performance out of Sutton Hyde, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Axel Dysholm, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
Barren County lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Grayson County pushed their record up to 3-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Barren County, they moved to 4-4 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Grayson County came out on top in a nail-biter against Barren County when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Grayson County since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
