Dawson is 10-0 against Alvin since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Dawson Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Alvin Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Dawson has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell to Alief Elsik 34-30. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Dawson came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while Alief Elsik is ranked 462nd).
Meanwhile, Alvin's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their seventh straight loss. They fell 41-28 to Alief Hastings.
Despite the loss, Alvin saw an underclassman step up: Evan Falcon almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Trey Falcon, who scored nine points.
Alvin struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They are winless (0-5) when they just don't pass the ball.
Dawson's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 24-9. As for Alvin, they dropped their record down to 9-23 with that loss, which was their seventh straight on the road.
Everything came up roses for Dawson against Alvin when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 74-38 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Dawson since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
