The Cumberland Valley Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Mifflin County Huskies at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Tuesday, Cumberland Valley made easy work of State College and carried off a 9-2 victory. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Little Lions recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Meanwhile, Mifflin County never let their opponents score on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Mount Union. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Huskies as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Macy Pietzch made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Pietzch was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Ava Baker and Riley Hine did most of the damage at the plate: Baker went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Hine went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that Hine has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Piper Specht, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Mifflin County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.2.
Cumberland Valley's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Mifflin County, their record now sits at 6-9-1.
Cumberland Valley took their win against Mifflin County when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 12-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
