Hobart and Highland are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Brickies will challenge the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hobart has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Hobart came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 15-4 to Valparaiso.
Taylor Lopez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Ladan Weinman, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Highland came out on top against Hammond Bishop Noll on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run sixth inning. The Trojans put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 12-2 win. Considering the Trojans have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Skylar Zoeteman made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordan Boyd, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Erica Phillips was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Highland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are 8-3 when they post 11 or more hits.
Hobart now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Highland, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-6.
Highland's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hobart has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Highland, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Hobart's sizable advantage in that area, the Trojans will need to find a way to close that gap.
Hobart suffered a grim 14-8 defeat to Highland in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Brickies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
