2A District 1 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Orlando Bradford of Calvary Baptist Academy ran for the longest rushing play in 2A District 1 this season against Redemptorist last week. Bradford scampered for 57 yards on the play and finished with 127 on the day as his team topped the Wolves.
Evangel Christian Academy suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 52-27 loss to Ouachita Parish. The Eagles had been ranked 16th, but fell to 34 following the defeat.
Calvary Baptist Academy's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Daniel Fitzwater threw for 170 yards and May Cody had 46 yards receiving. Darius Rice helped Calvary Baptist Academy's passing attack out by catching two balls for 40 yards.
Calvary Baptist Academy's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Cavaliers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Fitzwater has thrown for 1446 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while Weston Steelhammer has 19 catches for 327 yards. Bradford leads the league in rushing with 608 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when John Bachman's team takes on North Webster. As it stands, the Cavaliers are in first, while North Webster is in third.
Mansfield moved up to 104 from 159 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A District 1. The Wolverines climbed the ranks as a result of a 32-28 win over Richwood.
