Basketball Recap: Central City Value Comes Up Short

Central City Value played a tough contest on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 74-47 loss at the hands of the Downtown Magnets Suns. The defeat continues a trend for the Jaguars in their matchups with the Suns: they've now lost six in a row.

Despite the loss, Central City Value still got an impressive performance from Andy Lobos, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine boards. The match was Lobos' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brandon Valencia, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Central City Value smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games.

Downtown Magnets found their leader in freshman Jacob Agustin, who earned 19 points along with eight steals and six assists. Agustin is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed four or more in the last five games he's played. Patrick Lei was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 15 boards.

Central City Value's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Downtown Magnets, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Central City Value Jaguars face off against the Annenberg Panthers at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Downtown Magnets, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Aspire Ollin at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Downtown Magnets knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Aspire Ollin likes a good challenge.
