Baseball Recap: Copiague Takes a Loss

After flying high against Hampton Bays on Saturday, Copiague came back down to earth. The Eagles fell 5-2 to the Smithtown East Bulls on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled against the Bulls recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Aidan Roman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Copiague saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carlos Gutierrez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double. Jeremy Clase also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Copiague's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Smithtown East, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season.

While Copiague had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday.
