The Tonopah Valley Phoenix will head out on the road to square off against the Odyssey Institute Minotaur at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Tonopah Valley comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last 14 games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Last Wednesday, Tonopah Valley came up short against Kingman and fell 31-20. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Tonopah Valley in their matchups with Kingman: they've now lost seven in a row.
In what's become a running theme this season, Odyssey Institute gave their fans yet another huge win on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 44-21 margin over San Tan Foothills. Odyssey Institute pushed the score to 36-8 by the end of the third, a deficit San Tan Foothills cut but never quite recovered from.
Odyssey Institute's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shelby Hunt led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Hunt hasn't dropped below two blocks for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Eva Garcia Carrillo, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Tonopah Valley dropped their record down to 0-14 with that loss, which was their eighth straight on the road. As for Odyssey Institute, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-12.
Tonopah Valley was dealt a bruising 42-12 loss at the hands of Odyssey Institute in their previous matchup on January 4th. Can Tonopah Valley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
