Progreso can now show off 11 landslide victories after their most recent match on Tuesday. They breezed by Monte Alto at home to the tune of 55-24. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Progreso had established a 28 point advantage.
Progreso got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sophia Pecina out in front who dropped a triple-double on 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 12 assists. Pecina is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lorena Cerda, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Santa Rosa's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were beaten by Rio Hondo 66-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Santa Rosa has suffered yet this season.
Progreso has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season. As for Santa Rosa, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-14.
Progreso didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Santa Rosa in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 42-36 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Santa Rosa's Amber Mendoza, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds.
