The Northview Chiefs will be taking part in a tournament against the Elberta Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Northview's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Thursday. They blew past Baker 12-0. The Chiefs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.
Mikayla McAnally and Daviona Randolph were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, McAnally pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Randolph pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. At bat, McAnally scored two runs while going 1-for-4, while Randolph scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Those stolen bases were Randolph's first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylee Langham, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jamison Gilman, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Northview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Baker only posted a batting average of .062.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Elberta and St. Michael Catholic, and Elberta kept the tradition alive. Elberta was the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over St. Michael Catholic on Thursday. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Destiny Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Blakely Hooper was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-4. Maya Boyd was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Elberta's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-12. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 12 hits in those games compared to only 4.93 in the others. As for Northview, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.
Everything went Northview's way against Elberta when the teams last played back in March of 2023, as Northview made off with a 15-1 victory. Will Northview repeat their success, or does Elberta have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
