They blew past Golden City, posting a 61-32 victory at home. Given Wheaton's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while Golden City is ranked 569th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Golden City saw an underclassman step up: Jamison Menadue scored 14 points along with three steals. Menadue is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. Robby Stafford was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
Wheaton is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for Golden City, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost 16 of their last 17 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-20 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheaton will square off against Exeter at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Exeter is coming into the match with three straight victories at home, so Wheaton is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. As for Golden City, they will head out on the road to square off against College Heights Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. College Heights Christian is facing Golden City at the right time seeing as Golden City is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
