The McLaughlin Mustangs came tearing into Saturday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They greeted the New Year with with a 59-45 victory over Hitchcock-Tulare.
Despite the defeat, Hitchcock-Tulare saw an underclassman step up: Cambree Hoekman scored 19 points. The game was Hoekman's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Katelyn Schroeder was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds.
McLaughlin's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Hitchcock-Tulare, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McLaughlin will take on Cheyenne-Eagle Butte at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Cheyenne-Eagle Butte focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Saturday. As for Hitchcock-Tulare, they will be playing at home against Warner at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Warner will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
