The Breckenridge Huskies will head out on the road to challenge the Merrill Vandals at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Breckenridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Breckenridge barely beat Vestaburg the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Huskies' pitcher stepped up to hand the Wolverines a 12-0 shutout on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Huskies have posted against the Wolverines since May 3, 2023.
Blaze Snyder was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Snyder was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Noah Barr and Gavin Corbat did most of the damage at the plate: Barr went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Corbat went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits Corbat has posted over his last 11 games. Another player making a difference was Mikel Wolgast, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Breckenridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vestaburg only posted an OBP of .250.
12 must be Merrill's lucky number: they beat Webberville with that score not once but twice on Wednesday. The Vandals beat the Spartans by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 12-8. The Vandals haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Merrill now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Breckenridge, their record now sits at 16-4.
Breckenridge came up short against Merrill when the teams last played back in May of 2025, falling 4-1. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
