The Penn Cambria Panthers pushed their score all the way to 55 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They received a tough blow as they fell 74-55 to Westmont Hilltop. While losing is never fun, Penn Cambria can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while Westmont Hilltop is ranked 93rd).
Despite the defeat, Penn Cambria saw an underclassman step up: Caden Gibbons scored 13 points along with two blocks. Another player making a difference was Gavin Harrold, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Penn Cambria has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-11 record this season. As for Westmont Hilltop, they pushed their record up to 16-4 with that victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Penn Cambria is on the road again on Monday and plays Bishop McCort at 7:15 p.m. on February 12th. As for Westmont Hilltop, they will square off against Forest Hills at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Forest Hills knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 contests -- so hopefully Westmont Hilltop likes a good challenge.
