The Bishop Kelly Knights will square off against the Emmett Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bishop Kelly is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Bishop Kelly is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Ridgevue: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Knights blew the Warhawks out of the water with a 46-13 final score. Considering the Knights have won five matchups by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ben Avella had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 176 yards and three TDs, while also rushing for 58 yards and one score on only eight carries. Another player making a difference was Ryan Arellano, who rushed for 107 yards and one touchdown on only 14 carries.
Bishop Kelly's run defense was locked in: Ridgevue could only muster 3.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Jared Thiel for the heroic effort on defense: he. Bishop Kelly didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.3.
Bishop Kelly's defense didn't let Hunter Schmittel, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Thiel was especially locked on to Ridgevue's QB and sacked him twice. Bishop Kelly received some extra help from Nick Hebert, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Emmett, who bounced back after a loss on the road on October 2nd. They came out on top against Nampa by a score of 42-34 on Friday. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Bishop Kelly better keep an eye on Eli Brennan. He was instrumental in Emmett's win, rushing for 216 yards and four TDs while picking up 7.7 yards per carry, and also throwing for 61 yards and one touchdown. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Brennan a new career-high. Nessen Korell was Brennan's top target, picking up 25 receiving yards and one score, while also rushing for 46 yards and one TD.
Bishop Kelly's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Emmett, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Bishop Kelly has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 174.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Emmett struggles in that department as they've been averaging 309.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Bishop Kelly strolled past Emmett in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a score of 21-6. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
