Wake Forest fought the good fight in their overtime game against Northern Durham on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 68-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights. Even though they lost, Wake Forest's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.7 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Juel Tillery, who scored 16 points along with four steals. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Kavon Simmons was another key contributor, scoring 22 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, even though Non Varsity Opponent scored an imposing 61 points on Tuesday, Durham Academy still came out on top. Durham Academy strolled past Non Varsity Opponent with points to spare, taking the game 77-61.
Durham Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was JJ Wilcox, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Amare Burrus, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Wake Forest bumped their record down to 0-9 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Durham Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Wake Forest and Durham Academy are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Wake Forest hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 50.7 points per game. However, it's not like Durham Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 61.2 points per game.
