Softball Recap: Harper Barlow Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Coolidge

School Without Walls had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 19-run drubbing they dealt Coolidge on Thursday. The Penguins' pitcher stepped up to hand the Colts a 19-0 shutout. The Penguins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 11 runs or more this season.

Maeve Cunningham was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Cunningham was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3. She has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last five times she's played.

In other batting news, School Without Walls got a massive performance out of Harper Barlow, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Barlow is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Ayala-Rubio, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-2.

School Without Walls was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .650. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

School Without Walls' record is now 8-3. As for Coolidge, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

School Without Walls and Coolidge will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Penguins see the field they'll take on Eastern at 4:00 p.m. on the 22nd. As for Coolidge, their break will end when they face Banneker at 4:00 p.m. on the 22nd.
